Volume I includes a recommendation from Nicholas Hawksmoor, John James and James Gibbs dated 'January 11. 1733/4' printed on the verso of the title-page to vol. I. This recommendation is repeated in vol. II but printed on a singleton headed with directions to the binder to place it 'To face the Second Volume.' Plates I and II are printed on one leaf; a bis plate follows pl. XXVIII. The final [8] pp. of vol. II contains a 'Supplement' of additions and corrections, and the final page of both volumes contains the publishers' list. ESTC notes two different settings of sigs. B-G in vol. I. In the present setting the verso of leaf B5 line 1 'Architecture' is in italics; in the variant (q.v.), 'Architecture' is in roman. ESTC t4370.

Copy Notes Inscribed in ink on front free-endpapers of both volumes John Soane. With the name of a previous owner rubbed out from the top left corner of the front paste-down in both volumes, and the monogram J[C or G?R?] inscribed in pencil on the front paste-down of vol. II.

Binding C18th sprinkled calf, gilt double-rule borders and spine, tan spine-label.
