Hall's book stems from an essay he read on 6 April 1797 to the Royal Society of Edinburgh (of which he was president), which was published first in 1798 in volume IV of the Society's Transactions. The plates were 'chiefly executed by Mr. [Edward] Blore'. The final [2] pages (leaf U4) contain a list of new books published by John Murray, not present in the BAL copy. BAL, Early printed books, no. 1455.
Binding Original C19th brown paper boards, printed paper spine-label, 'Price £5. 5s.'.
