INWOOD, Henry William (1794--1843)
The Erectheion at Athens: fragments of Athenian architecture and a few remains in Attica Megara and Epirus illustrated with outline plates and a descriptive historical view combining also under the divisions Cadmeia Homeros and Herodotos the origin of temples and of Grecian art of the periods preceding by Henry William Inwood F.S.A. ...
London (Place), printed by William Nicol published by James Carpenter and Son John Taylor and Priestley and Weale,, 1827
[8], 90, [2], 91--123, [3], 125--153, [3], 155--161, [1] p., 39 [i.e. 34] pl. (6 double page) ; 57.2 cm. (2º)

Though the text calls for 39 plates, plates VI, VII, XIII, and XIII were 'not sufficiently complete in the detail to render tham useful [and] are not inserted' (p. [117]), and the numbering of many of the plates is irregular, with plates numbered 1--3, 6, 8, '8 & 9', [10], 11, 14, 15, 17--31, 35, 38 and 39, with bis plates 11, 27--29, and 31. There are separate dedications to John Duke of Bedford, Charles Lord Colchester, William John Banks and Thomas Hope, all dated 'June 1827'. The last three are printed on extra unnumbered leaves inserted between pp. 90 and 91, [124] and 125, and [154] and 155 in a later issue. However, unlike the example of this later issue in the BAL including these extra leaves, the plates in the Soane copy have not been reimpressed with the errors in numbering corrected. The book, to which Soane was a subscriber listed in the 'Introductory Address', became the standard work on the Erectheion. BAL, Early printed books, no. 1595.
