The plates are signed 'Dessiné d'après nature par G. Lory' or 'par Lory fils', i.e. Mathias Gabriel Lory (1784--1846). On the verso of the half-title is a list of print and booksellers in France, Holland, Italy, Germany and Switzerland from whom the work could be obtained, including 'Lory, pere et fils, peintres et dessinateurs des vues' in Neuchatel, Switzerland.
Binding C19th half red straight-grain morocco, gilt-tooled borders, gilt-tooled spine, marbled-paper boards.
