First published in 1702. Without the preface by P. Tallemant suppressed shortly after the original publication for the Académie des inscriptions & belles-lettres but ordinarily contained in the edition of 1723 (COPAC). Text by F. Charpentier, P. Tallemant, J. Racine, N. Boileau-Despréaux, J. de Tourreil, E. Renaudot, A. Dacier, E. Pavillon and J.P. Bignon; engraved by G. Edelinck, Simonneau, Audran, and B. Picard. Edited by C. Gros de Boze. With a colophon reading 'Par les soins de Rigaud, Directeur de l'Imprimerie Royale'. The frontispiece was designed by Antoine Coypel (1661--1722) and engraved by Charles Louis Simonneau l'aíné (1645--1728).
Copy Notes Various booksellers' hieroglyphs and a pencilled price £5.5.0. on back of front-endpaper and on flyleaf.
Binding C18th full red morocco, gilt triple rule borders, gilt-tooled royal arms of France on upper and lower covers, gilt fore-edges, gilt-tooled spine with crossed L's of Louis XV, gilt edges.
