First published in 1703 by 'T. N. Philomath' (=Richard Neve). The two final leaves advertise books sold by J. and B. Sprint and by 'G. C. at the Ring' (i.e. G. Conyers). ESTC t71409.
Copy Notes Inscribed in ink on front free-endpaper James Playfair/ October 18 - 1783. Playfair's promising career as an architect ended in 1794 when he died at the age of 39, broken hearted by the death of his eldest son. Soane and Joseph Farington helped his widow to dispose of all his books and drawings which were sold at Christie's on 10 January 1795. See Colvin, pp. 762--4; Darley, p. 101. The catalogue of that sale (q.v.) and many of his drawings are in the Soane (Drawer 78).
