Originally issued in parts between 1811 and 1819. As called for in the 'Directions to the Binder' (vol. II, p. [914]), pp. 1--260 and 68 plates of volume II are bound up with volume I in this copy, so that the title-page to volume II is followed by p. 261. One plate entitled 'Staircaseing' (relating to an appended entry on p. 911), is omitted from the binder's directions. BAL, Early printed books, no. 2281.

Copy Notes Although Soane is listed as a subscriber for an ordinary copy only (vol. I, p. viii), this copy, printed on much heavier paper than the example in the British Architectural Library, may well represent what is referred to in the list of subscribers as a 'Fine Copy'.

Binding C19th calf, black roll-tooled and gilt triple-rule borders, black-tooled corner ornaments, blind- and gilt-tooled spine, red and black morocco spine-labels, marbled edges.
