Dedicated to Sir Joshua Reynolds. A second, enlarged edition of the Theory of painting which first appeared in 1715, and was reissued in 1754 (q.v.). The Art of criticism and the Science of a connoisseur were first published together in 1719, and again in 1725 (q.v.). Soane's library also contains a copy of the 1792 edition of Richardson's works with a bound-in pen and ink portrait of the author and a sketched pencil portrait thought possibly to be of Mrs Soane (q.v.). With a [2] page publisher's advertisement at end. ESTC t147769.
