Taylor, Brook (1685--1731)
[Linear perspective. French. 1757]
[10], liv, [2], 127, [1] p., 6 fold. pl. ; 19.3 cm. (8°)

First published in 1715 as Linear perspective; an enlarged edition including the appendix on Newton appeared in 1719 (q.v.). The translator is generally agreed to be Antoine Rivoire. BAL suggests this translation, which additionally includes a translation of Patrick Murdoch, Newtoni genesis curvarum per umbras, London 1746, may be based on the Italian translation published in Rome in 1755; the 'Avertissement' leaf inserted after p. liv states that a copy of the Italian edition was received when the present work was 'sur le point de sortir de dessous la Presse'. See notes to BAL Early printed books, no. 3247; Kirsti Andersen, Brook Taylor's work on linear perspective (Berlin 1992), pp. 59--61, 256.

Copy Notes Lacking a half-title (?). The Soane copy has the 'Table Des Matieres' (sig. ¶4) bound after the title-leaf.
