Etched throughout. Apart from the titles, each leaf has two views numbered regularly 1--100 (tom. I) and 1--70 (tom. II). All the plates have Pronti's imprint and tom. I, view no. 53 is signed Arnolfo Spagnolini dis. The work is usually dated 1795, although vol. I only was advertised by Josiah Taylor in J. Salmon's An historical description of ancient and modern Rome, 1800, as '... just received from Rome, in 4to. Price 1l. 1s. in Boards'. BAL, Early printed books, no. 2632.
Copy Notes Two volumes bound as one. Ink acquisition signature John Soane/ 1815 and plate tally on front free-endpaper over incorrect pencilled tally and price 18s, probably in the hand of the bookseller Thomas Boone. This may be the volume described as 'Monta(?) Veduta di Roma' bought from Thomas Boone for 18s. on 10 July 1815. (Spiers Box). Earlier ink inscription on front pastedown beginning DS. [illegible].
Binding Late C18th/early C19th Italian mottled half sheep, block-printed green dot and red line-patterned decorated paper boards.
