Recueil d'antiquités romaines ou voyage d'Italie composé de 60 planches dans lequel on trouve divers vases, autels trepieds, arabesques et autres sujets gravés d'après les dessins que differens artistes ont fait pendant leur séjour en Italie, lesquels jusq'à présent n'ont point encore été gravés.

This suite of etchings appears to have been published with the title-plate and plates 1--60 by Pierre Basan. Plate 3 has traces of an erased signature and/or imprint. Plates 23, 38, 47 and 60 are signed and dated Weisbrod 1769, ie. Karl Wilhelm Weisbrod (1746--1806). The six additional plates not called for in the title are views of ancient remains in the vicinity of Rome and Naples drawn by Hubert Robert and Jean-Honore Fragonard and engraved by Adelaide Allou (fl. 1771), originally published as a separate suite entitled Differentes vues dessinées d'après nature in 1771, with plate 65 of the present collection entitled 'Differentes vues dessinées d'après nature par Mrs. Robert et Fragonard peintres du Roy dans les environs de Rome et de Naples' being signed by Allou and dated 1771, and inscribed on the plate 'Se vend a Paris chés Basan'. The Soane copy is similar to the one described in BAL Early printed books, no. 4080, but the imprint of Basan has not been erased from the title-plate after printing.
Binding C18th quarter sheep, gilt double-rule and gilt-tooled sunbursts on spine, paste-paper boards, gilt-tooled spine, direct-lettered 'Voyag DItal'.
