London (Place), pub. ... by the proprietor G. Landi and sold by Thos. King Jun. bookseller, & all the provincial printsellers. 1810.
Engr. t.-pl., [30] hand-col. aquat. pl. ; 59.6 cm. (2°)

The thirty hand-coloured aquatint plates are all that was published of Landi's 'Periodical Work', probably in monthly parts of six plates each between January and May 1810. In the Soane copy (which lacks plates 1 and 3 in part I), unlike the BAL copy, the twelve plates in parts IV and V are unnumbered. Pl. [1] of part IV, 'Roman Drawing Room', has the word 'Roman' pasted over 'Chinese'. Few copies survive of this work which BAL suggests may never have been formally published, but circulated by the author in hopes of producing a full-scale edition. Soane received 5 letters (one dated 20 October 1810) from Landi asking for financial assistance (Priv. Corr. I.L.2); it is quite possible that he obtained his copy from Landi himself. BAL, Early printed books, no. 1724.

Copy Notes Imperfect; wanting plates 1 and 3 in part I.

Binding C19th full brown paper boards.

Reference Number 5574
