Giacomo Lauro's popular set of engravings was first published as Antiquae urbis splendor in three books dated 1612, 1613 and 1615 and went through at least eight subsequent editions by 1699 as identified by Thomas Ashby (for a full reference see below); copies of editions dated 1612 [i.e. 1624?] (q.v.) and 1641 (q.v.) are also in Soane's library. This is Ashby's 'edition H' containing all the plates from the three parts of the original work, one plate from the later fourth part, 16 new plates by Pietro Santi Bartoli, and a new title-plate as above. See Thomas Ashby 'Un incisore antiquario del Seicento', La Bibliofilia (XXVIII, Mar. 1927, pp. 453-460; XXIX, Dec. 1927, pp. 356-369). BAL, Early printed books, no. 1781.
