First edition 1791. ESTC says that the second edition is a reissue of the sheets of the first; BAL suggests that the remainder of unsold sheets of that edition may have been issued in tandem wioth those of the second edition, covered by the same title-page. Henry Winstanley's first Eddystone lighthouse, built in timber, was destroyed in the great storm of 1703, and the second, designed by John Rudyerd in 1708 using timber and iron, was destroyed by fire in 1755. The third Eddystone Lighthouse, built by John Smeaton in 1756--59 using interlocking stone, stood until 1882 when it was rebuilt. BAL, Early printed books, no. 3059; ESTC t107556.
