The editor's preface notes that this work was initially intended to be published in folio with engravings, but is issued on its own in an inexpensive form making it more readily available to the amateurs for whom it is intended.

Copy Notes Inscribed in ink on verso of second front free-endpaper John Soane and annotated by him with a page reference to Story of the two Sculptors p. 111 on the recto of the second front free, and some marginal vocabulary notes in ink and pencil. Bound (1) with Les rêveries d'un amateur du Colisée, 1776 (q.v.) and C.F.J. d'Auxiron, Comparaison du project ... pour donner des eaux à la ville de Paris, 1769 (q.v.). The volume was bought for 3.50 francs from Porquet [?], presumably via an agent, with the works of Rousseau, 18 volumes folio, 1793--1800 (q.v.), 260 francs and the works of Molière, 6 volumes quarto, 1734 (q.v.), 40 francs, totalling Fr.303.50, 2 September 1831. (Priv. Corr. XVI.E.7.23). £19 4s. 5d. was paid on 2 October 1831 (Priv. Corr.XVI.E.7.26), i.e. 12 2s. 11d. for the books and £7 1s. 6d. for Carriage, porterage - Duty at Dieppe and Brighton -- with case-. (Priv. Corr.XVI.E.7.24). Bookseller's notes on verso of front free-endpaper.

Binding C18th mottled sheep, blind-ruled borders, gilt-tooled spine, red spine-label.
