The pagination of the letterpress includes the full-page engraved plates, intended to form a single paginated sequence with the letterpress facing the engravings. BAL suggests that the publication date on the title-page, in roman numerals, is open to two readings, as the 'LXXXIIII' has the final 'I' in a larger point size which may be intended to represent 'II' for a publication date reading 1785.
Copy Notes Purchased at Christie's Revett sale, 26--27 June 1804 (q.v.), lot 93 (second day) for £5 1s. Pencil inscriptions on plates I and V.
Binding C18th half mottled-calf, marbled-paper boards, gilt roll-tooled spine, red morocco spine-label.
