Both volumes have additional cursive letter title-pages dated 1812. The work, divided into two 'Parties' covering theory and practice separately, was originally issued in twenty-two 'Livraisons' to subscribers whose names are listed at the end of the last volume. The half-titles note that the complete work in two volumes was available for 10 francs. The plates are numbered in ten sequences with the totals for each volume given on the half-titles.
Copy Notes Copy 1: Bought from Priestley & Weale for £5 15s. 6d. on 24 May 1826 (Priv. Corr. XVI.E.6.9). All four volumes inscribed in pencil on front pastedown D_No_100. Volume I additionally inscribed in pencil on front paste-down £5_15.6/ 4 Vols, and in ink 230/ 15/ E. Volume IV inscribed in pencil on rear pastedown 1608.
Copy 2: 27.5 cm. Imperfect, wanting the half-titles to volumes I and II. Bought from Boydell & Co. for £4. 6s. on 14 July 1815. (Spiers Box. Boydell purchases).
Binding Copy 1: C19th quarter green morocco, dark green paste-paper boards. Bound in four volumes with the plates to each 'Partie' in a separate volume.
Copy 2: C19th diced calf, gilt roll-tool borders, gilt-ruled spines, black spine-labels. Bound by Edwin Hutchinson for 10s. 'calf lettd lined ground & rolled guarding plates, f. Nondelet + Geometrie £0.3.0', 6 June 1829. (Priv. Corr.XVI.E..6.29). Bound in two volumes.
