With a list of subscribers. The appendix has a separate title-page, pagination and register. The engravings are by George Vertue. The frontispiece portrait of Thomas Gresham is after a picture at the Mercers' Company; it and the two folded birds-eye views of the College are dated 'MDCCXXXIX'. Two other plates depicting the statue and tomb of Gresham are undated. Gresham College was founded in 1597 in accordance with Gresham's will directing the appointment of professors in astronomy, divinity, law, mathematics, music, medicine, and rhetoric to give lectures annually at his mansion at Bishopsgate, and later hosted the early meetings of the Royal Society. Copy Notes Bought from Thomas Boone for 7s., 24 December 1805 (paid 25 December 1806). (Spiers Box). Inscribed in ink on front free-endpaper Will: Cokayne, and on front pastedown library shelfmark 609. The clergyman William Cockayne (1717--1798) held the chair of astronomy at Gresham College from 1752 to 1795.
Binding C18th calf, gilt double-ruled boards and spine, dark red morocco spine-label.
