Some copies include a letterpress title-leaf (not present here or included in the above collation) dated 1772, the year in February of which part publication of the plates began. The leaves were printed in such a way that they could be bound in any order, with most leaves containing an engraving and accompanying letterpress; here they are bound according to the order suggested in the 'General Index' at the end of vol. IV. The work was completed in 1776 and a new edition begun in 1783, with a two-volume Supplement being added in 1787 (q.v.). BAL, Early printed books, no. 1385; ESTC t147669.
Binding C18th full russia, gilt-dotted borders, gilt double-ruled, direct-lettered spines. Bound in two volumes, uniform with Supplement (q.v.) lettered as 'V' and 'VI'.
