William Linton's Sketches in Italy were published separately in 1832 (q.v.). The author, Barbara Hofland, was a friend of Soane. The first leaf contains 'Notices On The Conclusion Of W. Linton's "Sketches In Italy."' from the New Monthly and London Magazine, October 1832; the second leaf is blank. Further 'Notices' are printed on the lower cover of the original paper wrappers. Butts 49.
Copy Notes Presented to Soane by Linton as an inducement to subscribe to his Sketches in Italy, as indicated in an ALs dated 29 March 1833 in which Hofland's poem is described as 'a friendly tribute on the part of its amiable Authoress'. (Priv. Corr. I.L.13). The front wrapper inscribed in ink 66/.
Binding Original C19th printed paper wrappers with the title printed on the upper cover and notices of Linton's Sketches on the lower cover. In protective archival enclosure.
