Signed by 'Thomas Newte' and 31 others, being a further communication in respect of a ballot appointed for 'Wednesday next' [i.e. 23rd February 1796]. 'Thomas Newte' was the pseudonym of William Thomson, a Scottish failed clergyman turned writer who published a variety of memoirs, biographies, travel books, philosophical novels, treatises and pamphlets, under his own name and different pseudonyms.
