First published in 1824. The thirty-six imaginary dialogues between historical figures are occasionally interspersed with Landor's poems. A third volume was added in 1828 and a second series of two further volumes in 1829. Four pages of publisher's advertisements before the title of vol. II.

Copy Notes Armorial bookplate of 'J.W.W. Tyndale', possibly John William Warres Tyndale (b. 1811), the son of Soane's neighbours George Booth Tyndale and his wife Margaret Catherine Tyndale. Acquired from Mrs Tyndale for £1 4s. on 11 March 1829. (SNB).
