First published 1748. Compiled by Robert Dodsley who signs the dedication. The preface and 'The Vision of 'Theodore, the Hermit of Teneriffe' are by Samuel Johnson; 'The Elements of Logic' are by W. Duncan. With a frontispiece in each volume engraved by Charles Grignion after Francis Hayman; the plates engraved variously by C. Mosely, Louis Boitard after Le Brun, and H. Roberts. With three pages of 'Books Printed for J. Dodsley' and one page of directions to the binder at the end of vol. I. ESTC t78581.
Copy Notes A mixed set with vol. I of the sixth edition and vol. II in the seventh edition, 1783 (ESTC n20388), bought from Thomas Boone for 9s., 24 April 1806. (Spiers Box). With Boone's price in pencil on the front free-endpaper.
