The title is taken from the engraved caption in the bottom margin of the print. Signed and dated: Giuseppe Subleyras disegno. Cav. Frnco Piranesi incise Roma 1786. The left-hand section has 'T.1' engraved in the top left-hand corner. This separately issued print was probably first published in Rome by the engraver in 1786. It is offered at 18 fr. on p. 17 of the 1801 'Calcographie de Piranesi frères' catalogue (q.v.), by which time it was included in the miscellaneous group of engravings by Francesco Piranesi that form vol. XXIII of the collected Opere di Giovanni Battista Piranesi, Francesco Piranesi e d'altri (subsequently re-issued by Firmin-Didot in Paris between 1835 and 1839). Copy Notes In a group of various prints engraved and / or published by Francesco Piranesi in the 1780s and early 1790s bound at the end of a copy of G.B. Piranesi's Differentes vues de qvelqves restes ... de l'ancienne ville de Pesto, [Rome, 1778] (q.v.).
Binding C19th half diced calf, gilt roll-tooled borders, marbled-paper boards, marbled edges, gilt-tooled spine, gilt lettered 'Colonna/ Traiano/ Pesto Adriana/ Pompei, &c.' Uniformly bound with Vedute di Roma [1747--1787] (q.v.) and Vasi candelabri cippi... [1778--1791] (q.v.).
