The title is inscribed in a stone tablet towards the bottom left corner of the image. Signed: Cav. Gio Batta. Piranesi delineo e incise a l'acquaforte. Cav. Francesco Piranesi incise a bollino. A separately published print, described in the 1792 catalogue of Piranesi publications as 'designé par ... Jean-Baptiste l'an 1760, et achevé par le Chev. François Piranesi ... en deux feuilles l'année 1791' (quoted Hind, Piranesi, p. 87). It was later included among the miscellaneous group of engravings by Francesco Piranesi that form vol. 23 of the collected Opere di Giovanni Battista Piranesi, Francesco Piranesi e d'altri issued in Paris by Firmin Didot between 1829 and 1839. Binding C19th half diced calf, gilt roll-tooled borders, marbled-paper boards, marbled edges, gilt-tooled spine, gilt lettered 'Colonna/ Traiano/ Pesto Adriana/ Pompei, &c.' Uniformly bound with Vedute di Roma [1747--1787] (q.v.) and Vasi candelabri cippi... [1778--1791] (q.v.).
