Although it retains its original engraved dedication to Giovanni Bottari dated 1748 this is a later issue forming part of a copy of the Opere varie (q.v.), a 'combination' volume of various series of Piranesi's etchings that was first published in 1750 by Giovanni Bouchard and, from 1761 onwards, by Piranesi himself. The Soane copy represents an issue dateable to the early 1770s (see Robison, p. 213). The un-numbered etched title of the second part reads: 'Antichi[t]à Rom[a]ne Fvori Di Roma Disegnate Ed Incise Da Giambatta Piranesi Architetto Veneziano Parte Seconda'. For details of the numbering of the plates in this edition and their subsequent re-ordering when the work was re-titled Alcune vedute di archi trionfali sometime after 1778, see Hind, Piranesi, p. 76
Copy Notes Issued as part of (and bound within) a copy of Piranesi's Opere varie (q.v.). The plates are arranged in a slightly different order to that given by Hind, ending with the un-numbered plate of the 'Arco di Galieno'.
