According to a statement by Britton in The history and antiquities of the cathedral church of Worcester, 1835 (q.v., p. xxiii), 25 offprint copies of his memoir published with the engraving of Thomas Lawrence's portrait of Soane in vol. V of Fisher's National portrait gallery of illustrious and eminent personages of the nineteenth century (q.v.) were produced for presentation purposes. For its contribution to the final estrangement between Soane and Britton, see the latter's Autobiography, part II, pp. 100-1. The letterpress title-leaf has a wood-engraved vignette of 'Vases in the Soane Museum' by Thomson (the engraver of the portrait) after W. Harvey. BAL, Early printed books, no. 397.

Copy 2: Later grey paper wrappers, paper label with title in manuscript on upper wrapper and brown paper spine added by A. T. Bolton.
Copy 3: C20th half maroon roan, marbled-paper boards. Bound for the use of the curators, 1919.
