Based on the Paris edition of 1701. Volume II is dated 1711 and has title-page reading: The works of Monsr. Boileau Despreaux. Volume II. Containing I. Longinus's Treatise of the sublime. ... II. Miscellanies, with a Discourse upon satire. Volume II pages 243--251 misnumbered 143--151. 'The Life Of Mons. Boileau Despreaux' has special title-page dated 1712; 'The Lutrin: A Mock-Heroic Poem. ... Second Edition' has special title-page dated 1711; 'An Ode On the Taking of Namur, Anno 1692' has half-title and special title-page dated 1712. 'A Treatise On The Sublime' has special title-page dated 1712, separate pagination and register. Soane made notes of extracts from Longinus's Treatise in a notebook labelled on the spine 'Extracts 180[1]' (Soane Case 142), probably in November 1812 on the evidence of the extracts on the preceding and following leaves. ESTC t143904.

Copy Notes Inscribed in ink at head of vol. I dedication and vol. II p. I Susanna - Walford - Her Book. This set of Boileau's works in two volumes was bought from Thomas Boone for 3s. 6d. on 9 June 1804. (Priv. Corr. XVI.E.1.4). Front free-endpaper inscribed by Boone in pencil 2 Vs s3=6d/ Plates. Another edition of 'Boileau's Works 3 Vols.', purchased from Boone for 6s. on 9 June 1806 (Spiers Box), is not now in Soane's library.

Binding C18th full sprinkled calf, gilt-tooled panels and double-rule borders, gilt-tooled spine compartments, red leather spine-labels.
