Imprint date from the publication line of the unnumbered perspective elevation, engraved by J.P. Morgan after Johnson. The Shire Hall at Chelmsford is Johnson's most important work; for further details see Howard Colvin, A biographical dictionary of British architects 1699--1840, 4th ed. (New Haven and London 2008), pp. 578--580. Soane is listed among the subscribers. The seat of the Earl of Chichester at 'Stanmore Park, Essex' is corrected in ink to Sussex.
