First published in 1762. Hume's History of Great Britain ... Containing the reigns of James I and Charles I had appeared in 1754 and was followed by The history of England, under the house of Tudor in 1759 and The history of England from the invasion of Julius Caesar to the accession of Henry VII, first published in London in 1762 (actually late 1761). All were subsequently incorporated into this more comprehensive work first published in 1762, which went through many editions as well as continuations by Smollett, and Thomas Lloyd and others, and was translated into French and German. Final leaf of 'Books Printed for and Sold by A. Millar' (15 items) in vol. VII. ESTC n8499.
