Includes an engraved portrait of Garrick by Luigi Schiavonetti after Sir Joshua Reynolds. Murphy had a brief career as an actor and a longer one as an essayist, playwright, and lawyer at Lincoln's Inn. 'With Arthur Murphy, later his biographer, [Garrick] had a love-hate relationship of real complexity.'
