G.F. von Martens's Primae lineae iuris gentium Europaearum practici was first published in Göttingen in 1775; this translation was made by Cobbett from the French edition, Précis du droit des gens modernes de l'Europe fondé sur les traités et l'usage, Paris, 1789 at the request of the United States government and first published in Philadelphia in 1775 as Summary of the law of nations. Advertisement for Cobbett's Weekly Political Register (q.v.) at end.

Binding C19th marbled calf, gilt roll-tooled beaded borders within gilt fillets, gilt-tooled corner ornaments, gilt-tooled spine, black morocco spine-label, marbled endpapers.
