Volume I only of a two-volume collected edition of the plays of Racine. Printer's woodcut device of a fox and the bee’s nest with motto 'Qværendo', i.e. Abraham Wolfgang (cf. Delalain). Each play is separately paginated, with its own additional engraved title-page and letterpress title-page dated between 1678 and 1683, but the register is continuous and includes the engraved leaves. Contents: Tome I. La Thebaïde, ou Les freres ennemis (1683). Alexandre le Grand (1678). Andromaque (1683). Britannicus (1682). Les plaideurs (1678).

Binding Late C17th(?) sprinkled calf, gilt-tooled spine compartments with centre lozenge and corner triangles, direct-lettered spine-title.
