The second Douai edition. Volume II title-page begins: The second tome of the Holie Bible .... Numerous errors in pagination. The Old Testament (originally translated from the Latin Vulgate mainly by Gregory Martin under the supervision of Cardinal Allen) and the Apocrypha only; the New Testament had appeared at Rheims in 1582 and at Antwerp in 1600.The text is followed by 'An Historical Table of the Times, Special Persons, Most Notable Things, and Canonical Books of the Old Testament,' and other tables, also errata, and the Extraict du privilège du Roy dated 3 August 1634. The annotations and the tables, etc., are ascribed to Thomas Worthington, who became President of the College at Douai in 1599. Darlow and Moule 387; Allison & Rogers 108; A.S. Copy Notes Imperfect; both volumes wanting the engraved title-plates. Pages 491--8 (signature Qqq) of vol. I bound out of order. Inscribed in ink at top of each title page: Starky. Bookseller's code prfa on rear pastedown of vol. I.
Binding C17th calf, blind-double-ruled borders and additional vertical line, blind-tooled floral motifs. Later rebacking in gilt-ruled calf with gilt fillet at spine edge of covers, red and olive morocco spine-labels. Marbled edges.
