A collection outlining the political and personal life of Walpole; the first edition had appeared earlier in 1833. The two men had met in Florence in 1739 and became close friends, exchanging some 1800 letters until Mann's death in 1786, although they never met again after 1741. Mann was the British resident in Florence during Soane's grand tour and a friend of the Bishop of Derry; it was Mann who persuaded Soane to alter his itinerary on his way back to London and travel along the Rhine valley rather than through France. With the imprint of Samuel Bentley on colophons.
