The Cambridge classicist Conyers Middleton was the occasional adversary of his colleague Richard Bentley (1662--1742). This biographical and critical study of Cicero, first published in 1741 (q.v.) is his best-known work. ESTC t125479.
Copy Notes Bought from Thomas Boone for 15s. on 23 June 1808. (Spiers Box). Volume I front free-endpaper inscribed in pencil in Boone's hand best printed Edition / 3 Vols -15s= and with Boone's codes; an earlier hieroglyph in ink.
Binding C18th sprinkled calf, gilt double-ruled borders and spine, faded red morocco spine-label.
