Parallel Latin text and English translation by William Duncan, Professor of Philosophy at the University of Aberdeen. The engraved frontispiece plate is a publisher's advertisement for the works of 'Horace, Virgil, Ovid and Phædrus ... Printed for Joseph Davidson, ... now Sold by Messrs. Hitch, Hodges, Fuller, Robinson, Trye, Beecroft, Ward, Johnson, Baldwin & Keith. as also a Correct Edition of Cicero's Select Orations ...'. Further advertisements for works published by Keith appear on the final page. Etched portrait vignette of Cicero on title-page. Soane took notes from this edition of Cicero's orations on 27--30 June 1806 (see Soane Case 172, pp. 350--358). ESTC t137807.

Copy Notes One copy (probably copy 2) was acquired with an unidentified Horace and a Terence (q.v.) for 18s. 6d., 18 February 1802 (Jnl 4, p. 388).
Copy 1: Inscribed in pencil on rear pastedown with a list of four page references to the text where passages have been marked. This copy was bought from Thomas Boone on the evidence of his cyphers on the recto of the frontispiece.
Copy 2: 21.5 cm. The dimensions of the frontispiece are 19.5 x 12.0 cm.

Binding Copy 1: C18th sprinkled calf, gilt double-ruled borders and spine, brown spine-label.
Copy 2: C18th tree calf, gilt-ruled spine, red morocco spine-label.
