Anonymous. The preface is unsigned but indicates authorship of the respective parts by John Shakespear and Thomas Hartwell Horne. Includes index. The map 'comprising the principal conquests of the Arabs' is drawn and engraved by J. Walker; the illustration on p. 285 is of a moorish brick. With 'A Collection Of The Historical Notices And Poems In The Alhamra Of Granada' made by Alonso del Castillo and translated by Shakespear, as an appendix. Murphy's Arabian antiquities of Spain, with historical and antiquarian descriptions by Thomas Hartwell Horne, was published by Cadell & Davies in 1815 (q.v.).

Copy Notes One of the two copies in the Soane Museum was bought 'in boards' from Cadell & Davies by James Moyes for £1 8s., 13 February 1816, together with a copy of Murphy's Arabian Antiquities (q.v.) for £3 12s. (Spiers Box. Purchases through Personal friends).

Binding Copy 1: C19th calf, narrow gilt roll-tooled borders, gilt-ruled spine, maroon morocco spine-label, spine title and imprint in gilt lettering. Bound by Edwin Hutchinson for 7s., 5 December 1829. (Archives 7/10/17).
Copy 2: C19th russia calf, narrow gilt roll-tooled borders, gilt-ruled spine, black morocco spine-label, spine-title only, marbled endpapers. Bound by Edwin Hutchinson for 6s., 21st [? date obscured by seal] May 1829. (Priv. Corr. XVI.E.6.29)
