This drawing was also probably made in preparation for a Royal Academy lecture drawing (as SM 65/2/1).
The elevation on the recto shows the upper part of the staircase hall, and both recto and verso correspond to the lecture drawing SM 76/2/13. The wall murals were painted by Louis Laguerre and show scenes from the story of Dido and Aeneas. The arrangement of paintings by Canaletto was in the hall at the foot of the stairs, below the saloon (shown in rough elevation on the verso). The columns were added here by James Wyatt to support the saloon above.
