Purpose
The Second 'Belvedere' Scheme, 11 December 1739 (5)
Notes
The Treasury responded to the First 'Belvedere' Scheme on 5 September, following which the Speaker was asked for comments and suggestions. Subsequently a Second 'Belvedere' Scheme was submitted on 11 December. The key difference is that the Parliament House is moved further towards the Thames so that phased construction is rendered unnecessary. For the interior of the House of Commons, a slightly altered version of plan 'D' was chosen (labelled 'D2' - drawing [27]). The estimate for the new building was £171,067.
