Purpose
Design for the chimneypiece for the dining room, c1769-70, executed at number 5 Royal Terrace (1)
Notes
The dining room would have been located at the back, on the first storey of the house.
This design is not known to have been executed at number 7 Adam Street, and instead was installed in the dining room at number 5 Royal Terrace, where it survived to be photographed by the LCC in 1936.
The inscription on this drawing: and for the front / Parlor 6th. House / River Front suggests that the design was intended to be duplicated in the front ground-floor room at number 5 Royal Terrace, and this was certainly the case, as shown by the photograph of 1936.
