Purpose

[58] Design for the ceiling for the front drawing room, 1770, executed at number 10 Royal Terrace

Aspect

Plan of a rectangular, tripartite ceiling, divided by bands of guilloche, and with enclosed rosettes in each corner, and with a central square compartment, containing a medallion set within a circular frame of Vitruvian scroll, festoons, and encircled by four cameos, and the whole is set within a shaped lozenge, and this within a circular frame of cable moulding, encircled by segmental rosettes enclosed within fans, peltoid shields, and festoons, and with pencil-drawn peltoid shields in each corner, and the central square compartment is flanked by rectangular compartments, containing enclosed rosettes, alternating with double calyx and anthemia
