Purpose
Alternative preliminary designs and finished drawing for a carpet for the dressing room, c1766 (3)
Notes
This carpet was clearly designed to echo Adam's ceiling for the room, but it is not known whether it was executed. Indeed, Mrs Montagu did not mention a carpet by Adam in her letter to Lord Kames (see note Adam volume 22/218). If the carpet was executed, it is likely that it would have been moved to 22 Portman Square in 1781. It is not known to survive.
