Purpose

Variant finished drawing and record drawing for a tripod for the dining room, c1775-83, Adam volume 6/56 as executed (2)

Notes

Four of these tripods were executed in accordance with Adam’s design (Adam volume 6/56). They are surmounted by alabaster urns which were to be lit by candles. One of these tripods remains in Adam’s dining room (now the library), and the other three were removed to the new dining room in 1807. The urns are now lit electronically. The tripod bases have been repainted to match furniture which Eileen Harris suggests may have come from Baldersby Park. The repainting work includes an ivy leaf motif on the tablet, which matches the dado rail in the 1807 dining room.
