Purpose
Preliminary design for a candlestick for the dining room, 1776, as executed (1)
Notes
The candlestick was executed as a pair in accordance with Adam’s design, and stood on top of Adam’s sideboard tables in the dining room (Adam volumes 6/114, 6/113 and 24/230). When the dining room was converted into a library in 1807, the sideboard tables, together with the candlesticks were removed to the first-storey landing of the stairwell where they remain.
