Purpose
Final scheme for the house, c1777, partly executed
Signed and dated
- c1777
datable to c1777
Notes
Like the various unexecuted schemes for the house, this design comprises an interesting mixture of castle-style and classical elements. Work to realise this design was begun in 1777, but abandoned and left unfinished only a year later (see scheme notes). According to Rowan this drawing is the best surviving evidence of the form of the older classical house, as it shows the proportions of the façade.
