Purpose
3rd scheme for the house, c1777, unexecuted
Signed and dated
- c1777
datable to c1777
Notes
Like the first and second schemes for the house, this design was not executed, and comprises an interesting mixture of castle-style and classical elements.
The pencil annotations show that this design comprised the second scheme. It is listed here as the third scheme as it appears to comprise the third scheme among the extant drawings, but the annotation suggests that it was the second scheme which was drawn out in finished drawings and presented to Lord Derby. Indeed, the intervening scheme – here listed second – was presumably never presented to Lord Derby, or developed beyond the early design phase.
