South Hill Park, Bracknell, Berkshire: alterations for George Canning, 1801 (2)

Notes

South Hill Park may have originally been built as early as the late seventeenth century (South Hill Park website; cf. Pevsner, op. cit., p. 195). Soane's designs for alterations for the future Prime Minister, George Canning (1770-1827), included new outbuildings, minor interior alterations and a new conservatory. No trace of this work survives. The house was altered substantially in 1853 and subsequently. It now serves as an arts centre.
