Purpose
Finished drawing, and variant record drawings for a chimneypiece for the library, 1771, partly executed (3)
Notes
The date of these drawings show that the library was the last room to be installed at Ugbrooke.
The design for the library chimneypiece shown in Adam volumes 22/173-175 was partly executed, retaining the consoles in the stiles, and fluting in the frieze, but the surviving chimneypiece has drops of calyx in the stiles below the consoles, it has urns rather than globes in the capitals, and the frieze includes enclosed rosettes rather than cameos or portrait medallions.
