Purpose
Finished drawing and record drawing for alternative designs for a chimneypiece for the dining room, 1766-67, unexecuted (2)
Notes
The designs for the dining room chimneypiece shown in Adam volumes 22/170-171 were not executed. The surviving chimneypiece is composed of stiles ornamented with figures supporting tazza, and drops including figure-of-eight wreaths, with a frieze of anthemia, and capitals ornamented with rosettes. This room suffered a fire during the nineteenth-century, and from examination of the chimneypiece it appears that the carved stiles are nineteenth-century replacements.
